i've finally got the new server rolled out, triggered by a power supply failure in the old one.
this is a major advance, the old server was a consumer grade mid-tower with a 266Mhz Pentium mmx, the new server is an IBM x330 with two 1.266Ghz Pentium 3s, 2.5G of RAM, and a RAID 1 Array with 2 10,000 RPM U160 disk drives. everything about the new server is 8-10 times faster/larger than the old one, the web site is very noticeably faster, and the associated software upgrade (from redhat 7.1 to fedora core 2) is pretty critical as well.
now that this hurdle is done, i anticipate resuming the content upgrade program that i was working on in the spring.
