I think that if an SRF went straight in without deaccelerating it could be pretty bad.
This is what happened in the fatality at LRP two years ago; a Radical DSR with 10" spacing impacted at full chat at the top of the uphill and the harnesses came loose; the driver was wearing a HANs. His carotid artery tore and he bled out in the car. I can't say that this was the whole cause; it was a tough accident, but I believe it was a contributing factor. An SRF could easily be going as fast at a fast track.

Are the HANs requirements as critical on the SRFs? Their terminal velocity is much lower than the top SRs and formula cars. Valuable caution or much ado about nothing?

I should add that if web site stats went up 880% nationwide, I'd be quitting my lovely and talented day job as a Java/DB consultant at BofA to work on the website full time, and there's some cool stuff I'd do if I only had the time, so get to it.

I stumbled across this page when I was trying to find info on Brooks AFB and their supposed track. I live in San Antonio now, and my mechanic here recently told me about some of the "car rallies" (his term) that they had there. I should be in contact with him this week, I can ask him about it and post up whatever I find if you'd like... If anyone knows anything about it, or other driver's events in San Antonio please drop me a line at my email: jchehal@gmail.com

Thanks!!!
They do not seem to have a mechanism for publishing their schedule online. Given that they have generally been "special events only", this is certainly annoying, but I don't have a good way to find out outside of calling them on the phone. there are two numbers listed for them in last year's National Speedway Directory, 208-756-3817 and 207-756-8780 (fax).

Richard, depending on your blog software (package or custom written), you should take a peek at the Akismet libraries out there: http://akismet.com/development/ It's free to use and provides external spam decision making based on thousands of authors and other factors. It's really quite impressive... unfortunately there is nothing quite as good for trackback spam which my MSR blog has been getting hit with ~4000 pings per day.

In response to your request for information on sand drags, the newly formed Four Corners Sand Slingers association has been holding monthly sand drags for about four months and the attendance has increased with each event. Everyone is invited in the "run what you brung" style races. No cxost to enter and the only prizes at this point are bragging rights. However as this event grows and the association gathers more members, classes will evolve and prizes will be awarded to top runners with a championship to be held in the cinders in Flagstaff,AZ each spring. Any one in the area or otherwise intersted can e-mail me at timxlr8r@msn.com or just show up at the next event Oct. 7 @ 10:00 am in Aztec, NM 819 S. Main Ave. It's a great time.
