Savannah Speedway

Savannah Speedway was a 1/2 mile paved oval located next to Savannah Dragway near Savannah, Georgia.

Historical Note

The track opened on March 4th, 1962 as a short (0.479) half mile dirt oval. It operated in this form through late August 1967 and may have operated as a dirt oval in 1981. NASCAR GN raced at this track in 1967, 1969, and 1970.

It ran as a 1/2 mile paved oval from mid October 1969 through 1981.

The track was purchased by the promotor of Oglethorpe Speedway and shut down in 1981.

Track Imagery

The oval is still clear in the TerraServer imagery and the Virtual Earth Nadir imagery (which are more or less the same). In the Oblique views, the dragstrip to the east is visible but the oval has been torn out.
