The ASA Late Model Series runs a carefully cost controlled series based in the central and midwest of the US. ASALMS is one of the surviving spinoffs of the collapse of the ASA in 2004.

A number of test races were run in 2002, and in 2003 the USPro racing series debuted with good results. In 2004, USPro partnered briefly with ASA to create the ASALMS. After the implosion of the ASA that year, Varney purchased the ASALMS series and the rights to run it under the ASA branding.
