Historical Note

The first race on the 3/4 mile oval was held on May 4th, 1969, the last on September 15th, 1991 (a scheduled first race on October 20th, 1968 was rained out.)

A number of different road course configurations have existed, the first entering service in September 1969. The various lengths listed in America's Speedways are 1.2, 1.5, 1.79 & 2.8 miles.

The first race on the 2.5 mile trioval was on August 3rd, 1971, a USAC Indy car race. Mark Donahue won that race. NASCAR Winston Cup started racing there on August 4th, 1974.

A 1/8 mile dragstrip used the front straight in 1970.

Track Maps and Imagery

This map shows the course currently being used by the SCCA, run clockwise, with the chicane on the Long Pond Straight:

The following map shows a course used by the SCCA some years ago, which uses the older north infield course and a newer south infield course. This course was discontinued due to issues with lack of runoff at key locations on the south infield segment.
North+South Infield Course

The following map shows the north infield course, used with the southern end of the oval, which is the traditional SCCA course, also used by some marque clubs such as the FCA. This version was typically run counter clockwise. The location of the original 3/4 mile oval is shown (the north end is labeled false grid); little trace of this track remains.
Traditional Road Course

A shorter alternative course often used by marque club events is the north infield course with the northern end of the oval (Big Bend and the North Straight, traveling in the same direction in the infield section of the course.)

Racer's Guide to Pocono International Raceway

For Club events

The track entrance for club events is the Tunnel Entrance under the Tunnel turn on Long Pond Road. Track staff may require you to sign a track waiver before entering, but will not charge admission for members of the club holding the event. After passing through the tunnel, continue on the infield road to the garage area. The NASCAR garages, which are straight ahead, are not available for club events; instead turn left (signs will indicate parking for ARCA and NASCAR "X" passes). As you follow this road, the grassy paddock spaces will appear on the left. Eventually it will curve to the right, entering the ARCA garage and paved paddock area. Do not bring a large rig in here without a plan for parking it.

Registration is at the ARCA lounge in the back corner of the paved paddock area. Tech is in garages 1 & 2 across from the ARCA lounge. Impound is located in the paved area between Tech and the ARCA lounge. Gas pumps are located on the other side of Tech, between the garages and the pits. False Grid is located at Pit In. When leaving the track at Pit Out, Tech is more or less straight ahead if you need to report to impound.

Some organizations (such as the SCCA) may cater worker lunch; otherwise, lunch is available from the cafeteria which is a long walk away at the far end of the NASCAR garages.
