Historical Note

Madison International Speedway opened in 1969 under the original name of Capitol Super Speedway. After an ownership change in 1986, the track was converted to dirt, an exercise which failed miserably. The track was closed from 1989 until 1992, when a new owner restored the pavement and resumed operations under the current name.
